(Finance) – No effect on the availability of gas for Italy after the stop to the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukrainea, for the failure to renew the contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz. The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, said this in an interview with Radio Radicale.
“The weight of the pipeline that crosses Ukraine is notable for Europe and for some European countries in particular, Hungary, Slovakia. As regards Italy the evaluation is different. We took gas from Gazprom in 2024 even more than the previous year but from ordinary management and depending on the moment the draw is different. Regarding the quantity at a national level, I reassure everyone, we have no problems. At the moment we have a storage that is 80% of what the dosage quota is, therefore we are able to cope with the winter transition of the next two months, from a quantitative point of view”.
“Let’s keep in mind che Italy supplied Austria using Tarvisio itself. The assessment of the maximum attention we must have on prices is different because it is clear that all this leads to a reduction in quantities in Europe and in the short-term spot market with some risks of speculation, which according to some analysts we have discounted in recent months”, he added Picket
“I believe that at this point the European Union should renew, and we have asked for it, any price cap, not 180 euros clike the previous one, but at 50-60 euros and it means putting a stop to purely financial operations that have nothing to do with the raw material”.
