(Finance) – “Within the transition we are all saying that we must abandon our gas consumption. Obviously, to abandon gas consumption we are converting all the electricity. So what happens in this scenario? What happens is that today we more or less have production from fossil sources, so let’s put all the fossil fuel together for all the energy we need, which is about 50% of our needs. We saw slightly less this summer, luckily when photovoltaics were doing great, we have periods in which it reaches 60-65% in the winter precisely because there is a sharp drop in this component, but it certainly plays a role important.” He declared it Diego Pellegrino, Spokesperson for Art, during the event “The Future of Gas in Italy in the new geopolitical context” which took place today in Rome, at the GSE Auditorium.
“In the exchange, in the conversion, in any case we will grow a lot with our consumption. Even today it is therefore not clear how we will then replace all this consumption, that it is true that we are moving so it’s not that we move 100 and 100, we move 100 and we will find ourselves on the other side 60-70 fortunately for optimization, but the fact remains that the role of gas still becomes important but above all for one aspect” .
“If we want and we are all used to going and pressing the famous switch and having the light, we need gas. Why? Because in any case today renewable sources do not allow us to have that necessary amount of energy when we need it. Current technology still does not allow us to store the entire source, when perhaps we use it less, to use it when it is needed instead. A banal example is the simplest one, day night with photovoltaic. Since all this technology still doesn’t give us these answers today, it is logical that we still see this gas as important for this transition.”
“But why is it right to reduce it? We necessarily have to reduce consumption, in fact we are all on this path, but we must not lose sight of the objective which is to get him outa bit like a prima donna calmly and slowly accompanying him to his exit, but he will certainly still have an important role for several years”
It’s right that we are all worried. Us we are heavily dependent on foreign countries for gas, we have no gas at home. Yes, we have some but we are talking about less than 5% of our needs, so nothing. Everything we need comes from outside. Before everything was easier because it came from a tube, so the tube starts from one side and came to us, now it’s no longer like that. The pipes are missing and since the pipes were missing we replaced them with a vessel, and the ship is another big deal, it goes where it gets paid best. So we have triggered a gas competition mechanism that is really strong. Yes, we must be worried because there is no solution to this, which is why we must do everything to quickly reduce gas consumption. But as we said before, it’s not something for tomorrow morning. And, certainly, all the more reason to diversify all the sources we have today, because what we have today is probably not enough for the famous energy security”, concludes Pellegrino.
