For vermin it was a garbage festival: rats, street cats and crows flocked to the garbage and bags ripped open. The result: the rubbish blows through the city, into the water and into nature. The municipality expects to be busy for at least a week to clean everything up. Nevertheless, pest controller Ruud Elbertse does not expect a huge increase in pests. “The fact that you see the animals more now does not mean that they are not normally there. The animals are usually also found in the city, but more scattered, or better hidden.” Those who are bothered by the vermin did not have to knock on the door of the municipality: the employees who fight vermin also went on strike.
