    A garage started burning in Luleå on the night of Tuesday, reports The Norrland courier.

    The alarm came at 00.40. A garage with seven garages burned on Lävägen in Luleå. There was heavy smoke in the area and residents were asked to stay indoors.

    At 02.45 the fire was extinguished. The garage must be completely destroyed. During the night, a woman was arrested, who is suspected of starting the fire.

    – She is in her 30s and was arrested at the scene, says Tomas Wretling, commander of the police’s regional command center to the newspaper.

  • US to Israel: Avoid escalation

    US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Monday not to escalate the situation with Lebanon further.

    The call came as the ministers met during Gallant’s visit to Washington, according to a statement from US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

    The situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border is tense with almost daily shelling from both sides.

    Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been clear, according to the spokesperson:

    – The Assange case has dragged on for far too long and there is nothing to be gained by continuing to detain him.

  • Fire in waste facility – VMA issued in Vaggeryd

    An important message to the public is issued in Vaggeryd, as there is a fire in a waste facility north of Vaggeryd’s urban area.

    The fire must cause heavy smoke.

    A car overturned shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Monday evening outside Filipstad, reports say NWT.

    The accident must have happened next to Flottuvans Motorstadion. Three people are said to have been in the car.

    All were taken to hospital. The condition of the three is unknown. The driver is suspected of careless driving.

  • Julian Assange pleads guilty

    Julian Assange has made a deal with the United States to avoid prison in the country. It reveals new federal legal documents, more international media reports.

    Under the plea deal, prosecutors will seek a 62-month sentence – which is equivalent to the time Assange spent in a high-security prison in London. This means that Assange would go free.

    The Swedish 59-year-old man was due to fly from Athens to Dubai on Monday morning. Then he was arrested at the airport, Greek reports Ekathimerini.

    The Swede must be suspected of gross fraud.

    When he tried to get through customs, he was arrested according to a European arrest warrant issued by Swedish authorities, the newspaper writes.

  • Agriculture in Denmark receives a carbon dioxide fee

    From 2030, Denmark will introduce a carbon dioxide tax for the country’s agriculture, which initially corresponds to 300 Danish kroner per ton.

    That is the meaning of an agreement between the government and several trade associations that was presented on Monday.

    The revenue from the new tax must go to investments in climate technology and production conversion. The money will also be used to plant 250,000 hectares of forest in the country until 2045.

    From the year 2035, the fee will be increased to 750 Danish kroner per tonne.

    – It is a good agreement, which I am happy about, says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) and calls the agreement “unique”.

    The Danish parliament, the Folketing, has previously decided on a similar fee for the Danish industry. An agreement for agriculture has been postponed several times after extensive negotiations, and despite Monday’s announcement, also needs to be approved by the Norwegian Parliament.

  • Feared gang leader got 35 years

    Germine Joly, former leader of 400 Mawozo, one of Haiti’s most feared criminal gangs, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison in the United States.

    He pleaded guilty in January to arms smuggling and money laundering. The latter crime is linked to a high-profile kidnapping of several North American missionaries and their families carried out in 2021 by 400 Mawozo.

    Joly, who also goes by the name “Yonyon”, was imprisoned for several years in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, but was still able to control 400 Mawozo. He was extradited to the United States in the spring of 2022.

  • Fire in chips and cheese arcs

    There has been a fire in a shop on Norra Sorgenfri in Malmö.

    The alarm came in at 10:40 p.m.

    – No one was inside the store when we arrived, says Mats Streer, officer on duty at the rescue service.

    He states that the store suffered fire damage and smoke damage.

    – It has burned in chips and cheese rings.

    On Monday evening, a man with a weapon entered a gym in Häggvik in Sollentuna.

    The police say that no one is injured.

    The man is arrested on suspicion of aggravated weapons offense and attempted murder.

  • Man arrested after apartment fire

    At 18:00, the police were called to an apartment in the center of Luleå due to a fire.

    At the scene, the police suspected that the fire was arson.

    Later, a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted aggravated arson.

    There are no reports of personal injuries.

    The residence is now cordoned off and the police are investigating the fire.

  • Man dead after trap hiking

    A man has died after going missing in the Great Falls National Park area.

    Relatives have been notified.

    The man was reported missing on Saturday, and a large search effort was made on Sunday where the police found the man’s car.

    No crime is suspected.

    Update:

    It was a private mountain rescuer in a helicopter who found the man on Monday.

    The police do not want to comment on the man’s age.

    – Most things indicate that it must have been an accident.

  • Man and woman killed in traffic accident

    A man and a woman have died in a traffic accident just north of Lidhult in Ljungby municipality.

    The accident happened at 3 p.m. Then a truck and a motorbike collided.

    The man is in his 70s and the woman is in her 75s.

    – It was traveling on the motorcycle, says Sara Andersson, press spokesperson at the police.

    The accident will be investigated.

    – We always have to have a suspicion of crime when we investigate, but I will not go into what the suspicion of crime is.

    Relatives have been notified.

  • Man beaten by a sharp object – taken to hospital

    Police and ambulance were called to an area in central Eskilstuna due to a disturbance at an apartment.

    A man in his 50s had been injured with a sharp object, and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

    According to the police, the man must have been awake and able to speak, but refers to the medical service for information on the condition of the injury.

    Hello! The police for statistics on that, which you will find here! Then from time to time we also make summaries of e.g. shooting deaths. So far this year, 18 people have been shot dead, so the number is down from last year. But compared to our neighboring countries, it is still at a high level.
