Gang leader in Växjö is suspected of murder – the prosecutor wants life imprisonment

The trial against the man is held in the security room at Attunda district court in Sollentuna. There sits the suspected gang leader singled out for having shot a 23-year-old in the head, on Sommarvägen in Växjö on October 8 last year.

– The shot is against the face. It is with the intention to kill and thus a pure execution, says prosecutor Tommy Sköld to SVT Nyheter Småland.

On the night of the murder, the murdered man was out walking his dog. Earlier in the year, according to the indictment, he had competed with the gang on the drug market. He had been robbed on two occasions, and then turned to the police.

“Lifetime”

Central to the investigation is a secret recording from an apartment near the murder scene, where the murder suspect, according to the prosecutor, talks about the murder and the motive.

The prosecutor tells SVT that he is aiming for life imprisonment.

– Considering how it happened, and why it happened. If it can be fully proven. Then it’s life imprisonment, says Tommy Sköld.

“Denying crime”

The police’s assessment is that the man suspected of murder was the leader of what the police call “Network D” in Växjö. In questioning, the suspect has consistently answered “no comment”.

His defense lawyer Frida Wallin does not want to make a statement before the trial, but states that he denies any crime.

The secret recording has already led to several convictions, including the 21-year-old was sentenced in July for complicity to murder and in June for aggravated weapons offences.

In those cases, the defense has questioned the reliability of the police’s way of identifying who is talking in the secret recordings.
