Gamescom to be bigger than ever in 2024 – boss says: “We expect new records”

In mid-August, gamescom, the world’s largest gaming trade fair, will once again take place in Cologne. The head of the event believes that a new record could be set in 2024. The trade fair is becoming increasingly important internationally.

What is gamescom? Gamescom (the spelling is lowercase) is the world’s largest gaming trade fair and takes place every year in Cologne from mid to late August. This year, gamescom starts with the opening night live on August 20th, before opening its doors to visitors from August 21st to 25th. According to statista.com, over 320,000 people visited the trade fair last year.

In addition to the opportunity to test new games, the trade fair has long been an experience and fan meeting point for gaming culture. This year, gamescom is set to break records again.

Head of gamescom is confident

What does the head of gamescom say about this year? Tim Endres, Director of gamescom, says: “After the already strong growth last year, we are heading for new records with Gamescom this year, with even more exhibitors and even higher international participation.”

Gamescom is set to become even bigger in 2024 and even break records. To make this happen, there are new innovations: “Fans, trade visitors and our partners from all over the world can look forward to an even more diverse Gamescom this year, to which our new Social Stage, the Cards & Boards Area and the Artists Area, among others, will contribute.”

This year, prominent exhibitors will be on site again. The Games Industry reports that “Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Astragon, HoyoVerse, THQ Nordic, Square Enix and Microsoft Xbox (including Bethesda and Blizzard)” will be there.

EA will also be represented for the first time and is expected to present its new football simulation spin-off FC 25 at gamescom 2024.

Who should open Gamescom 2024? This year, Gamescom 2024 will once again be opened by a politician. Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck (Greens) will open the trade fair, but other politicians such as Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) and NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) also want to be there.

Because some influencers are no longer considered trade visitors, they want to boycott the trade fair this year. YouTube and Twitch veteran Gronkh cannot understand this: Influencers want to boycott Gamescom because they can no longer get in for free – Gronkh shakes his head
