A gamer bought a new graphics card. In order for it to fit into his system, he relies on ruthless methods. But that also shows a general problem: graphics cards are getting bigger and bigger.
A user bought a new graphics card. But the part does not fit into its housing. Instead of buying a new case with more space, he simply saws a hole in the right outer wall (via reddit.com).
The end result looks really terrible and will surely scare fans of “clean” systems and good airflow. The reactions under the pictures are very different: Some just shake their heads in bewilderment, others explain that they have had similar ideas when the new graphics card didn’t fit.
You have to imagine that gamers have such maltreated computers under their desks.
Even if we can’t say with certainty whether the user actually edited his computer as shown in the picture, the post still shows a problem that many gamers should be familiar with by now.
Graphics cards are getting bigger and bigger
Most users actually agree on one fact: Modern graphics cards are getting bigger and heavier and require a lot of space. Anyone who has bought a new graphics card from AMD or Nvidia in the last few months should have noticed the general growth in pixel accelerators.
In addition to the large circuit board, many manufacturers also use bulky cooling systems to cool the powerful chips.
A number of users also share pictures of their gaming systems under the post. And here it can be seen almost everywhere: The space between the graphics card and the housing is damn tight. Often there are only a few millimeters between the housing and the GPU. Some also explain that their graphics card feels as big as the entire PC:
Nvidia recently introduced a small graphics card, but it’s unsuitable for gamers. It could be a while before there are small and slim graphics cards for gamers again. Because with AMD and Nvidia there is now a tendency for graphics cards to become bigger and, above all, faster.
You can see a particularly cool case in the following video:
Buying a case should be well thought out
If you are building a system, consider right from the start whether you want to upgrade again later. At the latest when you later decide on a much more powerful graphics card or want to install water cooling, you need enough space.
And this is where the sentence often fits: if you buy cheap, you buy twice. Because in the most annoying case, your hardware doesn’t fit and you can buy a new or a different case.
Of all the built-in components, a good case with lots of space and options is usually the longest and most common companion for many years. While the inner workings often change, the “case” often remains the same. One more reason to take enough time for this component:
That’s why you shouldn’t overlook the case when building a PC
