The most elaborate sci-fi series in Netflix history started on March 21, 2023: 3 Body Problem is the film adaptation of Liu Cixin’s Trisolaris trilogy * and as such is a sought-after project. Actor John Bradley still had to be convinced to return to the new series by his old series creators after Game of Thrones.
One argument convinced Game of Thrones star John Bradley of 3 Body Problem
3 Body Problem and was created by Alexander Woo together with the Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and DB Weiss for Netflix. As a result, some GoT actors find themselves in the cast again. One of them is John Bradley, the one in Westeros Jon Snow’s best friend Samwell Tarly played and starred in the sci-fi series Jack Rooney one of the “Oxford 5” mimes. Even if Bradley’s renewed participation in the series sounds like a safe bet, the English actor wasn’t sure at first whether he wanted to be there.

Speaking to GQ, John Bradley confessed his initial reluctance versus 3 Body Problem. In the end, it was an unbeatable argument from the Game of Thrones series creators that made him say yes (via Bleeding Cool):
[Benioff und Weiss sagten], ‘The character is closer to your own character than any character you have played before.’ I think if someone else had asked me, I would have asked more questions and thought about it a while longer. But because I know they know me so well – because I’ve spent so much time with them and I know how good they are at drawing out people’s strengths in their writing – I knew that I [mit der Rolle] would have a lot of fun.How is actor John Bradley similar to his Netflix character from 3 Body Problem?
Unlike the nervous, shy nerd that John Bradley played in Game of Thrones or Moonfall, his Jack Rooney in 3 Body Problem is a self-confident, successful entrepreneur. For the character, Benioff and Weiss actually based themselves on the actor who they got to know better during GoT filming in a pub in Belfast. DB Weiss explains in Netflix’s press release for the series:
He plays this very sweet, calm character. But that’s not really John. Spending time with the right John is he is very sarcastic and has a razor sharp mind. We thought it would be fun to write a character more similar to the real John Bradley. He’s so smart and such a good actor. I’m excited to let the audience see what he’s capable of. He is one of the most talented actors I have ever worked with.
A tongue in cheek one Sideswipe But the Game of Thrones creators couldn’t help but make a deviation: While the star John Bradley is a fan of the football club Manchester United, they made his character (complete with corresponding wristwatch and blue club colors) an outspoken supporter of the rival club Manchester City.
Whether 3 Body Problem will get a second season is still up in the air at Netflix. What happens next in the sci-fi seriesfans of the original books can already guess, even if the adaptation made some changes in season 1.
