Game of Thrones creator wants to give hope, but does the opposite

Few felt like more Game of Thrones after the Game of Thrones finale. The prequel House of the Dragon proved both critics and fans wrong.

Many more spin-offs are in the pipeline and the announcement of a Jon Snow series of its own a small sensation. But instead of infecting us with anticipation, George RR Martin rather worries.

Channel turmoil is a new threat to the Jon Snow series and all future spin-offs

Fortunately, we in Germany don’t feel much of the big drama on the US streaming service HBO Max. Since Warner announced the merger of its streaming services HBO Max and Discovery+, there has been a radical restructuring and numerous series have said goodbye to the platform.

In a new post on his blog Not a Blog, George RR Martin elaborates:

All the changes at HBO Max definitely affect us.

Because not only Game of Thrones, but also all other spin-offs have their home at HBO. However, he has his hands full right now, Limiting damage and setting courseas you can read extensively, for example, at Complex.

George RR Martin tries not to be put off by this and wants to give the fans hope:

and [ich arbeite] on some of the other spinoffs we’re developing for HBO. None of these have been ordered yet, but we’re hoping…that will happen soon. A few of these have been shelved, however I disagree that they were pulped. You can de-ice them as fast as you put them on ice.

Despite his de-icing theory, the facts are on the table: Not a single spin-off has been ordered yet and the turmoil at HBO is a whole new threat to the planned series.

In contrast to the restructuring of the entire DC Universe in recent weeks, the Game of Thrones spin-offs appear to be small fish for Warner Bros. Instead of heating up fans with his message, George RR Martin rather clouds the prospect of ever seeing the Jon Snow series & Co.

We appreciate the chance of a Jon Snow series as quite realistic a. In the current phase of HBO, however, it can also be off the table just as quickly if a screw in the project doesn’t fit.
