He led the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 2022 – since then, Gabriel Landeskog hasn’t been able to play anything.
Now comes worrying information from the US which states that the Swede may never make a comeback.
Even though it feels like he’s been playing in the NHL for as long as possible, the Colorado Avalanche is the captain Gabriel Landeskog only 31 years old. Now it is being reported in the American press that the Swede may be forced to retire even now. The rehabilitation does not go at all as everyone involved had hoped.
Landeskog has suffered a setback
After leading Colorado to the 2022 Stanley Cup, the club’s first in 21 years, Gabriel Landeskog had to undergo another knee surgery. He has now done it three times in total, in addition he had surgery on one thigh in 2020. Since the triumph two years ago, he has focused on rehabilitation and in recent times there has still been a small hope that he could be part of the opening of the new the season.

That hope seems to be completely dashed and dead. The club announces that Landeskog has suffered a setback in his individual training and he must now train less in order not to overload his knee.
– I don’t know if you can call it a setback. It goes up and down throughout the rehabilitation. Especially now that he’s feeling better and getting closer to games. He pushes himself in different parts. Sometimes he responds well to it and moves on to the next step. Then it may happen that the next step does not feel so good for him, says the head coach Jared Bednar.

Bad news about the captain
One who takes this very seriously is the club insider Adrian Dater who has good insight into the Colorado Avalanche. He writes on X (formerly Twitter) that it may be a question of whether Landeskog is even forced to end his successful NHL career due to the body giving up.
“From two credible sources: A comeback at all is a real question,” he writes.
From two trusted sources: Landeskog’s setback was “significant”. A return at all is in real question.
I hope this turns out to be WRONG. He doesn’t deserve this

Landeskog still has four years left on his contract, which runs until 2029. But the question is, will he really stay at the club that long? Dater is worried, but hopes for an improvement soon.
“I hope my information turns out to be wrong. He deserves this,” he writes.
Even Jared Bednar remains optimistic, despite the alarming data.
– I don’t think it’s anything unexpected. I think what happens is that if there is something that bothers him, he backs off or takes a different route. Currently, he continues to work and he is in the gym every day. Hopefully he will be back on the ice soon, says the coach.
It would be extremely tragic if this were true. Really hope Gabriel Landeskog doesn’t have to stop playing hockey. He deserves more and better than this. Fight!
