Gabon restructures its debt and commits to invest to preserve

Gabon announces that it will restructure a small part of its debt in exchange for its commitment to invest 163 million dollars in the preservation of the oceans. The announcement was made on Tuesday August 15 by the Gabonese Minister of Water and Forests, Lee White, and the American NGO The Nature Conservancy. This project, which should extend over 15 years, is possible thanks to a so-called “debt-nature” transaction. Gabon is the first country in mainland Africa to use it.
