The spotlights at the Sanderson Center for the Performing Arts will be trained on top local talent on Thursday night.
Fusion Beats 2024presented by Wilfrid Laurier University’s Hub for Community Solutions, Conestoga Students Inc. and the City of Brantford, will feature multicultural music and dance performances.
Admission is free and open to the public. This is the second year for the Fusion Beats initiative, following a highly successful inaugural event last September.
“Art, culture and community engagement is a key priority in Brantford’s Inclusive Community Plan,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “On behalf of city council, we are pleased to collaborate with our partners at Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College to offer this exciting showcase of local talent.”
Headlining the event is Layla Staats, a musician, filmmaker and activist from Six Nations of the Grand River. Staats will share the stage with a lineup of community-based and student performers ranging from Hindi rap artists to Nigerian pop singers.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures within our community,” said Christina Han, director of the Laurier Hub for Community Solutions. “We want everyone to leave the show feeling inspired.”
