During Saturday, the news came that the three surviving chimpanzees in Furuviksparken are trapped in their enclosure. The chimpanzee Selma is said to be seriously injured.
Last Wednesday, five chimpanzees got out of their enclosure at Furuviksparken. The monkeys are said to have opened windows themselves – and when they were on their way out, they were shot at.
The handling of the incident has received harsh criticism, including from the former animal keeper Ing-Marie Persson, who also offered her help.
– I am not saying that I can go in and solve the situation, but I have read these animals, I understand how they behave, I know them best of all, she says.
– We judge that our animal keepers know our monkeys very, very best. It has been many years since Ing-Marie worked in the park. That’s where Tjobbe came in, but also Torsten, it’s a completely different group constellation now than when she worked with them, says Sandra Wilke, CEO of Furuviksparken.
The chimpanzee Manda was confirmed dead on Saturday, and the three other chimpanzees shot in connection with the escape were Linda, Torsten and Santino.
