With the matter returning to council next month, residents are encouraged to provide feedback for the proposed community hub in a portion of the Downtown Chatham Centre.

The proposal would involve moving the Civic Centre, Chatham library and Chatham-Kent Museum to the mall.

“The Chatham-Kent community hub project is a large and complex undertaking and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent remains committed to ensuring that the public is informed and their opinions are considered throughout the process,” the municipality stated in a release Wednesday.

To date, there have been three public information sessions, attended by more than 300 people, and two online surveys conducted through the Let’s Talk platform, each with over 1,000 responses.

There have also been three stakeholder engagement meetings, with the stakeholder engagement group including representatives from the CK Public Library board, the accessibility advisory committee, the municipal museums advisory committee, and the gallery advisory committee.

Phase 1 was completed last fall when council authorized purchase of the mall’s former Sears store. The current phase set up the stakeholder engagement group and created detailed concept designs.

The proposal is slated for the Oct. 21 council meeting for a decision on the continuation of the project.

“This is not the final decision point, but rather a decision to determine if the project will continue into Phase 3, which if approved, details finalization of the designs, tendering of costs, construction procurement, and pending final approval, the commencement of construction ,” municipal officials added.

Further council decision points are planned for both the first and second quarters of next year.

To ensure public awareness, and time to review, the clerk’s office will release the council report two weeks in advance of the council meeting.

In place of deputations, as per the procedural bylaw on deputations, administration is encouraging residents to email letters to [email protected] for council’s review prior to the Oct. 21 meeting.

The full report, which will include links to related materials, will be added to the Let’s Talk page on Oct. 7 at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/community-hub
