Funny on Netflix: should we see the new series from the creator of Ten percent?

Funny on Netflix should we see the new series from

FUNNY. Netflix has released “Drôle” by Fanny Herrero, to whom we owe “Ten percent”. What do the critics of this generational series think about behind the scenes of stand-up?

[Mis à jour le 18 mars 2022 à 9h55] After Ten percentFanny Herrero is writing a Netflix series. Funny has been online on the streaming platform since Friday March 18, 2022. No more star glitter: subscribers will be able to discover behind the scenes of the Parisian stand-up, thanks to sketches written by real comedians like Fanny Ruwet or Thomas Wiesel. It is above all a generational portrait of today’s twenty-thirty and their galleys that the six episodes of season 1 paint. For the moment, we do not know if Funny will be entitled to a season 2 on Netflix.

The critics are, however, conquered by Funny. For Le Figaro, it is “finally” a “winning bet for Netflix”. “The dialogues are of exemplary finesse and precision” greets the generalist media. An opinion shared by The world, who says he is seduced by “his premium writing, his sociological bias and his joyful staging”. Same story on the side of France Inter, seduced by “the funny endearing characters”: “Fanny Herrerro confirms her mad talent for shaping characters that ring true and arouse empathy.” As its title indicates, the Netflix series is not lacking in humor according to RTL : “Funny, it is, it’s also the goal, thanks to the contribution to the writing of real good standuppers”. Funny seems to have all the qualities to equal (or dethrone?) Ten percent in the hearts of Netflix subscribers.

Funny is a series created by Fanny Herrero, to whom we owe Ten percent, in collaboration with Hervé Lassïnce. Netflix subscribers will be able to discover from March 18, 2022 a portrait of the current generation of thirty-somethings, between galleys and successes, through the backstage of stand-up. Four comedians, all performing within the club that gives the series its name, are described there during the six episodes that make up this first season.

For the needs of the script, authors specializing in comic shows were called in to write the stand-ups that we see in the series: we can therefore recognize the writing of Jason Brokerss, Fanny Ruwet, Shirley Souagnon and Thomas Wiesel. Funny is directed by Farid Bentoumi (episodes 1, 3 and 5) and Bryan Marciano (episodes 2, 4 and 6). In the casting, Netflix subscribers will discover the talents of Mariama Gueye (Under X, Sophie Cross, the Smala gets involved), Younes Boucif (The Magnetics, Ramdam), Elsa Guedj (A young girl who is well, not even badly) and Jean Siuen (The clumsy, Don’t do this, don’t do that, Microbe and Gasoil).
