In Lithuania, 3 million Euros were collected in 3 days in the donation campaign organized for the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 SİHA in order to send some regions to Ukraine under Russian occupation.
Reuters news based the campaign on the Lithuanian television Laisvers TV.
Agne Belickaite, 32, who donated 100 euros to the campaign, said: “Before this war started, none of us thought of buying weapons. But now it has become a normal thing. We have to do it so that the world is a better place.”
Belickaite added that he was also afraid of Russia attacking Lithuania, a former Soviet Union country.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense carries out the procurement process of armed unmanned aerial vehicles (SİHA) from Turkey, and the purchase agreement between the two countries is expected to be signed next week.
Ukraine has purchased more than 20 Bayraktar TB2 SİHAs from Turkey in recent years. Finally, he placed 16 more orders on January 27, and these orders were delivered to Ukraine at the beginning of March. The price of Bayraktar TB2 is 5 million Euros.
“This is the first time civilians are organizing a fundraiser to buy something like Bayraktar. This is a unique campaign,” said Beshta Petro, Ukraine’s ambassador to Lithuania.
Most of the weapons that NATO member states in Eastern Europe have sent in support of Ukraine so far are ex-Soviet weapons.
The population of Lithuania is about 2 million 650 thousand.
