Fun filled Canada Day planned for Woodstocks Southside Park

There’s plenty of Canada Day fun planned for families in the Friendly City.

Beginning at 2 pm on Saturday, July 1, Southside Park will be filled with live music, a Canadian Kids Zone, a marketplace featuring a wide variety of artisans and more than a dozen food vendors.

The day will end with a spectacular fireworks display presented by one of the event’s main sponsors, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Inc. The dazzling lights and dynamic pops of the fireworks begin at 9:30 pm, and are expected to last for about 10 minutes.

From 2 pm to 8 pm on the main stage at Southside Park, families can enjoy continuous live music from a number of talented performers. Musicians tapped to entertain the Canada Day crowds include Jack Demarest, Leanne Mayer, the Sidewalk Crusaders, Blind Dog joe and the Practically Hip, a well-known Tragically Hip cover band. Early in the afternoon, there will also be a demonstration by Dance in Style while the opening ceremonies are slated for 5 pm

During these main-stage performances, the Woodstock Lions Club will be hosting a beverage garden that boasts a view of the performances.

For both kids and the young at heart, the Canadian Kids Zone offers dozens of entertaining activities, including an inflatable obstacle course, a Zorb ball race track, a petting zoo, face painting, and a photo booth. There are also inflatable skeeball, inflatable basketball and inflatable hockey games in the zone, which is open from 2 pm to 7 pm

From 2 pm to 8 pm, the Kurbside Gamerz will be opening their mobile gaming truck to young gamers who want to try their hands at Mario Kart, Gran Turismo or other console games. Children will also be able to visit with a few fairytale princesses from 2 pm to 5 pm at a special meet-and-greet.

During the day, Woodstonians will be able to peruse the marketplace at the park, which will feature everything from hand-crafted soaps to home-made pies to women’s fashions. If feeling a bit peckish, the food vendors will be serving up gourmet hotdogs, funnel cakes, tacos, ice cream, bubble tea and other test treats.

An ATM will be on site during the Canada Day celebrations. More details about the marketplace and food vendors, as well as a full schedule of entertainment, are available at www.cityofwoodstock.ca/canadaday.
