Norra Älvsborg’s rescue service has been fighting a boat fire in Södra Hamnen in Uddevalla since 04.45 on Saturday morning. When they got there, the fire was fully developed with open flames.
– From the beginning there was also a lot of smoke and we had some people who called in and smelled it. The column of smoke could be seen for a long way, says Patrik Karlsson, officer on duty at the rescue service at 07:00.
Initially, there was also a great risk of spreading to other boats in the harbour.
– A large catamaran was very close, but we managed to avoid spreading by moving it, he says.
Hard-to-extinguish fire
At seven o’clock on Saturday morning, the fire is under control but still difficult to extinguish.
– It is very difficult to access the fire, both because it is burning in the cabin, but also because of the material that is burning. Then we can’t pour in any amount of water, with the risk of it sinking, says Patrik Karlsson.
There are no reports of injuries or that anyone should have been in the boat.
