Fully developed fire in hardware store – risk of spread

A fully developed fire has broken out in a hardware store in Malmö. According to the emergency services, there is a risk of the fire spreading.
– It is a larger building that is on fire, says Patrik Fors, press spokesperson at the police.

The alarm about the fire was received at 20.15. Police and rescue services are on site with several units in the Ellstorp district in eastern Malmö.

– We are on site and assisting the rescue service with cordoning off, says Fors.

According to the emergency services, there is a risk of the fire spreading.

“It’s a heavy fire”

– We are worried about that. We have a large number of resources on site working to contain the fire, says Angelica Anbring, fire engineer and operations leader at the South Rescue Service.

The fire is said to have broken out in the roof of the building.

– It is a heavy fire that we are working with, says Anbring.

There is currently no information on personal injuries.

Urges residents to stay away

The TV4 News reporter describes how open flames rise from the building.

– This big column of smoke has subsided somewhat, but it has been going up and down all the time, says TV4 Nyhetern’s Mikael Nilsson.

Emergency personnel on site urge residents to stay away from the smoke.

– It is a part of the building closest to the train track that is on fire, train and bus traffic has been stopped. It will take many hours before it is extinguished, says Mikael Nilsson.
