Full hybrid: what is it?

Full hybrid what is it

Among the hybrid cars, we distinguish:

  • the micro hybrid;
  • the semi-hybrid;
  • the full hybrid.

Principle of the car full hybrid

A car full hybrid is a vehicle with total hybridization: two engines using energies different types, fuel and electricity most often, ensure locomotion.

These two motors can operate separately or together depending on the conditions of speedpower and energy reserve.

At low speed and when the battery is charged, the electric motor takes care of starting and locomotion. At high speeds or when the battery is discharged, the thermal motor take over. When more power is needed for pick-up or acceleration, the two motors work together.

The full plug-in hybrid

In popular parlance, the hybrid cars actually refer to full hybrids, as is the case with Toyota’s Prius.

There is a variant of the full hybrid: the plug-in hybrid car, which has a socket allowing recharge the battery independently of the operation of the heat engine.
