Carnival is especially celebrated among the rivers. But Utrecht villages and towns also throw themselves into the festivities every year. Carnival is most celebrated in Hoogland. But also in Achterveld, Montfoort, IJsselstein, Harmelen and Odijk, among others, a lot is being done. Volunteers from the local carnival associations have been organizing parades, festivities and/or events here for years, attracting many visitors from the villages and the region.
