Last Thursday the city council voted on the subsidy, to the surprise of the Fulcotheater, which tried to postpone the council decision through a lawyer. “The speed with which this decision was made surprised us,” says executive director Anastasia van der Lugt. This was also the criticism of the opposition parties during the municipal meeting. But according to councilor Mark Foekema, discussions have been going on with the theater about the new subsidy scheme for seven months. “In all those months there has never been a signal. They never said to me: we cannot live with this, we do not support this.”
