Cryptocurrencies appeared during the financial crisis of 2008. They have since been presented as a decentralized and disintermediated alternative to traditional currencies. Their popularity exploded during the Covid-19 crisis. Driven by the effect of confinements and the excess liquidity on the financial markets, the capitalization of the sector reached 3,000 billion dollars in the fall of 2021. A series of crises hit from the “crypto” which lost two thirds of its valuation. The scandal linked to the fall of the FTX platform at the end of 2022 also plunged cryptocurrencies into the most serious crisis of confidence in its young history. Will they survive it?
