According to the Financial Times, the United States plans to support Ukraine’s air defense with dramatic means.
The US government plans to suspend all ongoing orders for Patriot air defense missiles and concentrate all missile deliveries to Ukraine until the country is able to defend itself against Russian airstrikes, The Financial Times claims.
FT’s source is “three parties with knowledge of the matter”, according to whom the matter will be officially announced today, Thursday.
Dramatic action follows the president Joe Biden the promise he made last week in Italy that he would have received new commitments to supply air defense equipment to Ukraine.
According to Biden, five countries have promised to send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
Poland, Romania, Germany and Spain are still waiting for deliveries of Patriot systems or missiles.
Air defense systems consist of rocket launchers and probes. In Ukraine, anti-missile, anti-aircraft and anti-aircraft systems play a key role in countering Russia’s continuous air attacks.
With its airstrikes, Russia targets Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, among other things, with the aim of crippling the country’s critical operations.
