(Finance) – Over 16 billion euros of investments spread over all four new business poles. This is what is expected for Lazio on Industrial Plan 2022 – 2031 of the Italian State Railways Group. Presented this morning in Rome by Group president, Nicoletta Giadrossi, and by the CEO, Luigi Ferraris, the Plan provides for over 190 billion in investments with an impact on the national economy estimated at 2-3 percentage points of GDP.
In detail the planned investments for railway infrastructures in Lazio amount to 4.5 billion euros. One of the main and most anticipated interventions is the one concerning the closure of the northern Rome railway ring. The ring, which will close the capital inside, represents a good alternative to avoid city traffic and will allow the establishment of new metropolitan services: direct accessibility to railway services for some urban municipalities; better integration of the network also with the interchange at Tor di Quinto with the Rome – Viterbo line managed by ATAC; new interchange functions with the Val d’Ala stop. The imminent restoration of the Valle Aurelia – Vigna Clara connection represents the conclusion of a first phase of the work.
Pigneto knot – The project involves the construction of an interchange node between the regional lines Orte – Rome – Fiumicino Airport (FL1), the Rome – Viterbo (FL3), the services of the FL4 / FL6 Castelli / Cassino lines and the C line of the Rome metro . The construction of the stop will involve urban redevelopment with the creation of green areas available to citizens.
Infrastructure upgrade Rome Tiburtina – The interventions, currently underway, envisage the re-closing of tracks 2 and 3 EST on the “goods” line Bivio / PC Nuovo Salario – Roma Tiburtina. In this way, the infrastructural conditions will be created for the extension of the FL2 services from Rome Tiburtina to Val D’Ala, in line with the provisions of the framework agreement for local public transport with the Lazio Region.
Quadrupling Capannelle-Ciampino – The work involves the construction of a new pair of tracks of approximately 5 km between Ciampino and Capannelle. One pair of tracks will be used for the trains of the line to Cassino, while the other will be used by the trains for the Castles, creating the infrastructural conditions for an increase in capacity.
Guidonia length doubling – The interventions consist in doubling the line between Length and Guidonia by about 10 km. In addition to the infrastructural intervention, the technological upgrade of the line is planned. This project will make it possible to increase the capacity of the line and to extend the metropolitan service from Length to Guidonia with a frequency of 15 minutes. Work is also planned on the road system, the elimination of level crossings and the construction of interchange parking lots in the new Guidonia Collefiorito station and Bagni di Tivoli.
Doubling Cesano-Bracciano – The doubling between the stations of Cesano and Bracciano will be done partly alongside the existing track and partly in a variant of the route for 16 km. The intervention, which involves the elimination of all level crossings, will make it possible to create the infrastructural conditions for an increase in services, improve performance, reduce travel times and increase the regularity of traffic.
Doubling Campoleone-Aprilia – The project envisages the doubling of the Campoleone – Aprilia section by approximately 6 km with the adaptation of traffic management equipment and public information systems. This intervention will lead to an increase in line capacity, regularity of operation and performance, as well as an improvement in accessibility to the service by customers and a reduction in travel times.
Infrastructure upgrade Rome Tuscolana – The project includes infrastructural interventions aimed at reducing bottlenecks in the station and increasing capacity on the Rome Tuscolana – Rome Tiburtina section.
Infrastructure upgrade of the connection with Fiumicino Airport – The project envisages: The quadrupling of the line between Ponte Galeria and Fiumicino Airport, with the creation of infrastructural connections between the Maccarese – Aurelia section and the Maccarese – Ponte Galeria section, allowing entry onto the new quadrupled line; the upgrading of the Fiumicino Airport station through the construction of two new tracks and the refurbishment of the station roof. Thanks to these interventions, the offer from / to Fiumicino Airport can be expanded and improved. As regards road infrastructures, investments in the region amount to € 2.73 billion. The main interventions concern the SS4 and the adaptation to 4 lanes from km 36 to km 70, the SS675 from Monte Romano east to Civitavecchia, the strengthening of the GRA junctions and the Formia variant.
PASSENGER POLE – As regards passenger transport, the total investments are equal to 1.3 billion euros: there are 72 trains of which 65 rock, 12 with 5 boxes and 53 with 6 boxes, 3 bimodal, 4 complexes at 200Km / h, plus 2 diesel locomotives. New services will be activated such as the connection to Vigna Clara and a substantial expansion of the offer will be made in view of the Jubilee of 2025.
LOGISTICS CENTER – The integrated logistics services hub provides for investments of € 7.4 billion. Interventions are planned in Pomezia, Rome San Lorenzo and Rome Smistamento. The upgrading of Pomezia involves the redevelopment of the existing warehouses (20,000 m2), and the extension of the module of the first two tracks of the bundle. In Rome San Lorenzo the existing warehouses will be redeveloped and extraordinary maintenance will be carried out in Rome Smistamento.
URBAN CENTER – As regards the urban center, investments are planned for 95.3 million for the enhancement of 2.2 million square meters. The main projects concern: Rome Tiburtina, Rome Tuscolana, Rome Termini and Rome Trastevere. The most important initiatives planned are: the international competition “C40 – Reinventing cities” (Appia Antica-Casal Rotondo), the new urban variant of Civitavecchia, urban regeneration projects in Frosinone and forestation projects on abandoned areas.
