(Finance) – Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) has completed the delivery of seven hybrid Intercity trains that connect Calabria, Basilicata And Puglia. The trains, purchased with PNRR funds, began circulating on the Ionian line last March, experiencing a 15% increase in passengers in the summer period.
With the delivery of the hybrid Intercity trains, the first part of Trenitalia’s investments is thus completed, equal to 60 millionfinanced with PNRR funds and included in a broader plan for the South which includes a further 600 million for the purchase of new Intercity trains. The first hybrid train, which connects Reggio Calabria to Taranto, left on March 25th and, subsequently, from this summer the other trains began to circulate, extended to Bari and Lecce, thus ensuring a new direct connection between the locations of the Calabrian Ionian line and the two important Apulian cities.
The Trenitalia hybrid Intercity is produced by Hitachi and combines with the technology of convoys latest generation, the typical Intercity travel experience. The new vehicles are sustainable, innovative and able to guarantee a more comfortable and ecological service thanks to reduced consumption and the triple power supply – electric, diesel and battery – which allows CO2 emissions to be lowered by 83% compared to current fuel trains. diesel engine.
The new trains are made up of 4 carriages for a total of 200 seats with seats covered in 100% fabric made from recycled plastics; seats dedicated to passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility and 8 bicycle spaces.
