(Finance) – Second day in Italy of the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Ioana Valeantraveling on a Frecciarossa from Roma Termini to Naples Afragola, accompanied by a institutional delegation of the FS Group. At Rome Termini, before boarding the Frecciarossa, the EU Commissioner for Transport approached by the microphones of Tg Uno and Fsnews, she underlined, among other things, Europe’s attention to the development of the TEN-T network and the corridors involving Italy, developments also favored by Community funding from the Recovery Found, in addition to the interest in an ever wider liberalization of the European railway market for the benefit of travelers and a growth in the rail transport of goods. “Our challenge is to make the transport system increasingly sustainable and, to do so, we need to effectively integrate road and rail with each other – said Commissioner Valean -. As regards above all freight transport, the goal is to gradually transfer traffic from road to rail”. In other words, aiming for that modal shift in favor of the railway which requires, among its presuppositions, a more performing railway infrastructure connected with ports, freight terminals and roads so as to create an integrated logistics system capable of making the train prevail over the medium and long distances. And thus achieve the goal of at least doubling, in a decade, the current share of goods transported by train. Which is, moreover, one of the objectives set in the Industrial Plan of the FS Group, illustrated just over a year ago by Ferraris.
Valean, reached Naples Afragola, was able to admire the architectural jewel designed byAnglo-Iraqi archistar Zaha Hadid, a symbol of Italian civil railway architecture of recent decades, and attended the inauguration of the first Cantieri Parlanti Infopoint in Campania. A space open to the public with information panels and interactive videos on the main investments of the FS Group in Campania. “Talking Construction Sites” is a project conceived and implemented by the FS Group with the companies of the Infrastructure Pole, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and Italferr, together with the companies involved in the works, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Extraordinary Government Commissioner. And it intends to “give voice” to over 30 Strategic Works throughout Italy, which involve thousands of people every day.
Commissioner Valean was presented with the main projects in progress to modernize and upgrade infrastructure and technologies of the railway lines in Campania, for a total investment of 21.7 billion euro, partly financed with PNRR funds, with a focus on the new Naples – Bari line.
There new HS/HC Naples – Bari line represents the first and most advanced work that the Infrastructure Pole of the FS Group is carrying out for the upgrading of the railway network in Southern Italy, for a total investment of 5.8 billion euros, also financed with European funds from the PNRR.
