Fruit growers are still allowed to spray against apple blossom beetles, but it may already be too late

Are the Utrecht apples in danger This beetle eats everything

Raptol is a biological agent based on rapeseed oil and a plant extract pyrethrin. It may be used in floriculture, but an exemption is required for agricultural use. This is granted by the ministry for “unforeseen emergencies”, but the ministry actually believes that this has no longer been the case for a long time, because the fruit growing sector has been applying for an exemption annually since 2018.

The exemption has now been granted again “under strict conditions”. The ministry also wants the sector to indicate “what efforts are being made to achieve a situation in which exemptions are no longer necessary”.
