Peter Lundgren broke through in world tennis in 1985 as a 20-year-old, during a time when Sweden dominated the sport. Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg and Anders Järryd were all top ten ranked in the world.
In total, Peter Lundgren won three titles on the ATP tour. One of perhaps the most memorable matches was the final of the Stockholm Open in 1988, where he fell against the German Boris Becker.
“You should have won”
– I spoke to Boris recently, and then he said that I should have won that final, says Peter Lundgren in SVT’s interview.
– Then I said that he could have given me that title then. It would have been good, he adds.

But it was as a coach that Peter Lundgren became really big in international tennis.
Over the years, among others, he has coached three players who were ranked number one in the world at various times: the Chilean Marcelo Rios, the Swiss Roger Federer and the Russian Marat Safin. He has also coached Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland, who was world number three at best.
