Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened the G20 Summit in Delhi.
The meeting of the G20 group began on Saturday morning in the capital of India, Delhi.
Prime minister Narendra Modi said in his opening speech that the G20 countries have agreed to accept the African Union as a permanent member of the group. In this way, we want to give developing countries a greater voice in the group alongside rich and developing countries.
With the historic decision, the cooperation organization of 55 African countries will have the same status as the European Union in the group.
According to the African Union, membership will help the entire continent to face the global challenges it is suffering from.
Trust gap between countries
According to Prime Minister Modi, there is a crisis of trust in the world.
– The war has deepened the lack of trust. If we were able to defeat the corona crisis, we will also be able to defeat the crisis of confidence, Modi said.
This can be seen in the fact that the G20 countries are not believed to be able to formulate a significant, common position at the meeting on Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Russia and China are members of the group.
Sources of the alliance said on Saturday that the countries would have agreed on the final statement of the text format regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine.
It will probably be meaningless.
A large economic project is underway
In connection with the meeting, the United States and the European Union will strengthen cooperation with India. Modi, President of the United States Joe Biden and President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen tell about a large rail and sea transport project that connects India to Europe via the Middle East.
It is hoped that the rail and sea transport corridor will increase trade and the movement of energy between the participating countries.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are also involved in the project. It aims to counterbalance China’s infrastructure projects in various parts of the world, with which it has managed to bind the rest of the world to support its own economy.
The European Union is also expected to announce an infrastructure project that will connect, for example, the mining areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia to the port of Lobito in Angola.
