Province of Utrecht – A tarantula, a wallaby or a herd of sheep: animals regularly cause quite a stir in the region by escaping from captivity. And then you have the animals that do not escape themselves but are dumped, such as the lion cub Remy that was left behind in a meadow in Westbroek. But in all those reports about escaped animals, one predominates: the snake. According to snake expert Rob Dumont, these ‘slithers’ simply cause a stir more quickly and they are masterful escapees. “You have to watch them constantly, even more so than babies.”
