From March 21st you can also play what is perhaps the best MMORPG on the market on Xbox

It was announced in mid-2023, and the launch date has now been set: Final Fantas XIV will finally launch on Xbox consoles on March 21st. MeinMMO has put together everything there is to know for you.

What kind of game is this? Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG developed by Square Enix. Here are the key points:

  • Final Fantasy XIV was first released in 2010 and re-released in 2013 with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
  • Since the new edition, the game has been supplemented with a total of four expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker. The next expansion, Dawntrail, has been announced for summer 2024.
  • This game is a so-called theme park MMO. This means there are a variety of ways to pass the time.
  • In addition to the excellent main story, you can expect, among other things, raids with different manpower levels, dungeons, boss fights and PvP.
  • Due to the level sync system, all content of all levels is consistently relevant. You can find players more quickly in current content, but you don’t have to wait too long for older content.

Is it still worth getting into Final Fantasy 14 in 2024?

    by Sophia Weiss

Alongside top dogs like World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV is one of the best MMORPGs you can currently play.

On the one hand, it impresses with the many different and consistently relevant content forms. On the other hand, although it is multiplayer, you can also play it as a single player if, for example, you only want the story. In addition, newcomers in particular benefit from the friendly and helpful community.

How can I play Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox?

In order to play the game, you need a Square Enix account. You have to link this to your Xbox account.

Please note that each Xbox account can only be linked to one Square Enix account. Accounts created for the Xbox Beta cannot be retroactively linked to pre-existing Square Enix accounts.

Existing players can also link their account and seamlessly take their previous characters and progress with them to the Xbox. New players who start with the Xbox release can also take their console saves to the PC or Playstation version if necessary – which must be purchased additionally.

And of course you finally have to download, install and start the game in your desired version.

Important: Accounts created for the beta should not be linked to existing accounts as their saves cannot be carried over to the full version. If you do this, you will not be able to take your PC/PS4/PS5 save into the full Xbox version after the beta, as relinking is not possible.

Particularly important: The Steam version of the game stands alone. A save file from this cannot be shared with other versions.

Does Final Fantasy XIV cost anything?

Yes, Final Fantasy XIV is a paid MMORPG. In order to play the full version, you must buy the starter version of the game (up to level 70) as well as the latest expansion (up to level 90) for your desired platform.

There are also monthly subscription costs, which you can pay on a monthly basis, quarterly or even half-yearly. However, the monthly costs are not per platform, but apply to all versions of the game assigned to your service account.

This is what the game currently costs:

When you purchase a game edition for the first time, you will also receive 30 days of free playing time.

It should also be noted that Final Fantasy XIV is a purely online game. You can now master most of the content alone with NPC help, but you always need an active internet connection.

Is there a free version of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox?

Yes, there is a free version of Final Fantasy XIV. You can use the so-called free trial once per Square Enix service account. Once you have purchased/received a version of the game with your service account, you can no longer access the free trial.

The free trial includes most of the game’s content up to and including level 70. For example, you can play the entire main story of the base game A Realm Reborn, the expansions Heavensward and Stormblood.

You can also play the free trial on Xbox consoles without a GamePass subscription.

Do I need a Game Pass to play Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox?

The answer is also yes. There are also different versions here. These are the exciting editions for consoles:

Unfortunately, the PC-only version of the Game Pass subscription is not suitable for playing Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox, as it only applies to PC.

Owners of the Ultimate GamePass will receive the starter edition of the game between March 21 and April 19, 2024. You’ll keep it after April 19th – even if you cancel your Ultimate subscription. However, you will still need a GamePass subscription to play after April 19th. But it doesn’t matter whether it’s an Ultimate or a Core subscription.

When Final Fantasy XIV finally appears on Xbox on March 21st, the game will have arrived on almost all current consoles. Incidentally, with Dawntrail there will be a major graphics update from which all platforms will benefit.

Most recently, a new class, but also a completely new race, was announced: After 5 years, Final Fantasy 14 finally brings the race that players want: “They are perfect”
