Daniel Yule won the Chamonix slalom despite starting the second round in last place.

Swiss alpine skier Daniel Yule was a disappointed man after his first descent in the Chamonix slalom. The mistake dropped him far down the leaderboard. So far that he was certain to be eliminated from the second round.

– I had already packed my bag and was leaving for the hotel. Then I got the chance to count in the second round, Yule said according to news agency AP.

Yule was the last man to enter the second round. The second bill was better. So much better that he historically won the entire race. No one had won by such distance in the second round before.

– I thought that in warm weather and on a perfect slope I could fight for a place in the top ten. But I could never have dreamed of winning, Yule said.

It was the weather that turned in favor of Yule, who was the first to land. On the weakening slope, skier after skier fell behind Yule. Another Swiss came closest Loic Meillard. He was 0.16 seconds behind Yule.

– Unbelievable. I have to admit that I was really lucky to even make it to the second round. The second bill was incredibly good, Yule expressed.

The previous record was held by a Norwegian by Lucas Braathen on behalf of. He rose to victory from 29th place in Wengen slalom two years ago.

After the first round, the one who led the race in front of his home crowd Clement Noel was badly disappointed and threw his stick at the advertising fences in the goal. He hasn’t won a World Cup race in over a year.

Sports expert Kalle Palander couldn’t believe his eyes in the newsroom.

– Absolutely incomprehensible. Even in today’s slalom, this kind of thing happens at a steady pace once a season, Palander said.

Palander pointed out that the race was really even, which in turn made Yule’s performance possible. For example, Austria came in 29th place Adrian Pertl was only 1.24 seconds behind the winner.

Leading the slalom world cup Manuel Feller was fourth in the race. Yule is third in the slalom cup.
