From January 31, more than 160 municipalities in France will be disconnected from the Adsl network to make way for fiber. A gradual dismantling of the historic communication network which will continue until 2030.
ADSL has been living its last years in French homes. Since 2024, access to an internet connection gradually transitions from ADSL to fiber. A gradual dismantling of the historic communication network will continue in 2025 with a first phase of disconnection looming on January 31. Thus, 162 municipalities in 18 departments (Aisne, Ardennes, Charente-Maritime, Cher, Corrèze, Côte-d’Or, Finistère, Haute-Garonne, Loire, Mayenne, Morbihan, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Seine-et- Marne, Yvelines, Vaucluse, Vendée and Overseas) will be disconnected from ADSL and connected to the fiber network.
To best prepare your disconnection from the ADSL network, the Orange operator has provided the full list of the municipalities concerned by this first phase on its site. After this first batch, 829 additional municipalities will be gradually disconnected from January 2026, before a third batch of 2,145 municipalities in January 2027. The last adjustments will occur until November 2030. A date that will mark the complete end of connection to the ‘ADSL in France.
End of ADSL: a progressive migration to fiber
Who says the end of the ADSL says welcome to the fiber. Thus, to facilitate the transition of connection to the Internet, the municipalities concerned have a period of three years. Sufficient time to prevent the population and guarantee the widest fiber network coverage possible so that households can easily migrate from one network to another. This is why, during the progressive disconnection of a lot, internet access providers multiply calls to customers to offer them a suitable fiber offer.
On its site, Orange calls on consumers concerned to contact their services to anticipate any line cutting and migrate to fiber as soon as possible. As a reminder, there are many advantages of fiber. Internet speed is faster than that of ADSL and adapts better to current consumption requirements (streaming, online games, videoconferencing, telework, etc.). Finally, the fiber is also less subject to slowdowns and network cuts.
Note that if you wish to subscribe to an ADSL offer, this is always possible, but it must be done before January 2026. After this date, operators will no longer have the possibility of offering you to be connected to the copper network and You will have to go directly to fiber.
