From illegal graffiti sprayer to exhibitor in the City Museum

As a twelve-year-old boy, Pepijn, full of excitement, went to the track with his friends and his spray cans to place his first illegal tag. His friends were arrested by the police, but he managed to escape. That didn’t stop him then. It wasn’t until he got a job as a prison guard that things changed. “Sometimes there have been some police at home. That has also shaped me and made me where I am today. Because I now work for the justice department, I started making more paintings. Enjoying a hobby on a canvas, that also makes me happy. But Tags still trigger something in me. A lot of people don’t like that. I have the exact opposite. It’s that fast thing, that real illegal raw edge, that makes it interesting for me.”
