From April 20 2023 Canal subscribers will enjoy Apple TV

From April 20, 2023, Canal+ subscribers will enjoy Apple TV+, Apple’s video streaming service, at no additional cost, on their TV decoder as with the myCanal app. A nice gift that will also benefit both companies.

It’s a nice surprise gift that Canal+ has just made to its subscribers! On April 13, Maxime Saada, president of the famous audiovisual group, announced on Twitter the signing of a “historic and multi-year” agreement with Apple to integrate the Apple TV+ streaming service into all Canal+ offers at no additional cost. As specified the official press release which followed in the evening, this partnership will allow all Canal+ subscribers to enjoy content from the American platform without having to pay for an additional option. Clearly, from April 20, 2023 – the date of the effective integration of the service – all Canal+ customers, old or new, will have free access to the Apple TV+ catalog, via their TV decoder or the myCanal application, available on computer, smartphone, tablet, compatible smart TV or Apple TV box.

Initially, the integration of Apple TV+ into the standard Canal+ package only concerns France – the press release is not clear on this point, evoking both metropolitan France and France in general… – and the Swiss. The offer will then be extended to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, countries where the Canal+ group operates, before being deployed elsewhere.

As a reminder, Canal+ offers several subscription formulas, with a basic offer at 22.99 euros per month for two simultaneous screens – the more expensive formulas including series and sport. True to its policy of simplicity, Apple, on the other hand, markets a single Apple TV + package at 6.99 euros per month with a seven-day free trial, which makes it one of the cheapest streaming formulas at the moment. But Canal+ subscribers won’t even have to pay this modest sum to take advantage of the service!

Canal+ and Apple: a winning partnership

With this strategic partnership, the financial terms of which have not been disclosed – we can well imagine that the operation is not “graceful”… – Canal+ is strengthening its position as an aggregator. A role he has already held for years, having entered into broadcasting agreements with Netflix, Disney+ and Paramount+, and which places him in a privileged position in a booming market where more and more platforms are competing. , at the risk of drowning viewers in an overabundant offer.

For Apple, which does not have as many subscribers as the streaming giants, it is an opportunity to reach a new audience by taking advantage of the aura and firepower of the Canal+ group, by showcasing a catalog towards quality original productions.A winning operation insofar as the French group has some 9.5 million subscribers in France – and 26 million worldwide: so many customers who will discover Apple TV+ without breaking the bank! for Canal+, this integration at no additional cost represents an excellent way to enrich its offer in order to maintain its power of attraction – and its subscriber base, who will be less tempted to look elsewhere…

For the two companies, this partnership is also a way of emphasizing their involvement in audiovisual creation – one of the hallmarks of Canal+, which has been investing in cinema for a long time. In addition to its successful American productions – such as the excellent series Severance, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, See, Foundation or even Black Bird – the Apple TV+ catalog will offer content intended for French-speaking audiences, in particular Liaison, a series with Vincent Cassel and Eva Green, and Les Gouttes de Dieu, inspired by the manga by Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto, which will be available from April 21.
