He reportedly earns SEK 300,000 a month.
But Johan Sundström doesn’t even get a place in Frölunda’s squad.
– A big failure, says Roger Rönnberg to GP.
Frölunda has had a strong summer in terms of players in and out, and they will enter the new SHL season with high hopes for top positions. They have also started this year’s CHL with two straight wins, but all is not peace and joy.
Can’t even exercise
When Johan Sundström was recruited to the club a few years ago, it was a bit of a prestige signing. He came from the KHL with expectations for himself to be a leader, but it has not turned out well at all. Now he has instead received the message that he does not have a place left in the team.
This means he will not be allowed to either train or play matches with the club – but his contract is still valid until he finds a new club. And it is no small salary that Frölunda pays “unnecessarily”. According to GP, Sundström earns SEK 300,000 a month.
– We will not go into everything in detail about what we are talking about – but the basic thing is that we have informed him that he is not part of this year’s team. Then he has a valid contract. We have to be responsible for that. That is what matters. If he wants to play elsewhere, they have to talk to us about it. It’s not really that difficult, but we’re still at the same status, says sports manager Fredrik Sjöström to Göteborgs-Posten.
“A big failure”
Roger Rönnberg doesn’t hold back with how he feels about it all. It is possible to discern a certain sadness and criticism in the statements.
– It is a big failure that Johan is no longer with us, he says to Gp.
Last season, Sundström scored 15 points in 49 games in the SHL. At present, the situation is strange, says Rönnberg.
– It’s weird. It is. I like Johan and I really hope that he gets further in his hockey career and gets a role where he can grow.
