Frölunda’s successful head coach was responsible for a coup in the middle of the match against Skellefteå. When Roger Rönnberg is to be interviewed live, he chose to tape his mouth.
– We’re not allowed to talk about verdicts and the like, the coach finally says.
TV4’s commentator Patrik Westberg will begin the interview with Frölunda’s head coach Roger Rönnberg in the second period break. Then Rönnberg appears with silver tape over his mouth.
– This is a really good match that you don’t want to comment on, I suppose? asks commentator Patrik Westberg.
Rönnberg then suggests that there was a situation with too many players on the ice in the match.
– I thought you were going to talk about six men on the ice at the end there… we’re not allowed to talk about verdicts and stuff like that. Excuse me, jokes Roger Rönnberg after pulling off the tape.
It is unclear exactly what situation Rönnberg was talking about.
Has criticized judges several times
Historically, Roger Rönnberg has criticized referees after questionable match situations. At the same time, there is a continuous discussion in hockey Sweden about how much coaches and players should appropriately criticize and focus on referees’ efforts. Judges have also criticized Roger Rönnberg for his strong backlash, including after a match last year where Rönnberg himself was sent off.
After the tape incident, TV4 does get a few comments about the even match, before ending the conversation with a warning.
– Look out for that silly mustache with silver tape like that, says Roger Rönnberg.
– Yes. Kisses and hugs, Roger Rönnberg concludes the interview.
