Tom Nilsson went on a solid tackle from Ludvig Nilsson – but was immediately on his feet.
The latter has now gone on a long suspension.
At the same time that Frölundabacken is praised for its actions.
The match between Växjö and Frölunda on Tuesday evening ended convincingly 3–0 for the home team at Vida Arena, after goals by Noah Östlund, Victor Stjernborg and Keegan Lowe. Växjö is now in fifth place in the table while Frölunda holds eighth place.
Nilsson vs Nilsson
The aftermath of the match has partly focused on Frölunda’s weak effort, but mainly on a certain tackle, which can be seen below.
With just under six minutes left in the first period, Frölundas got Empty Nilsson a serious tackle to the head and body by Växjös Ludvig Nilsson. Frölundabacken quickly got back on his feet, and the referees took no action.

But Ludvig Nilsson’s tackle was reported to the disciplinary board, and the verdict has been passed. A four-game suspension now awaits the Växjö striker. He has also received a fine of over SEK 12,000. The suspension is Nilsson’s fourth in just under a year, and first of the season.
Tom Nilsson did not participate in Frölunda’s training on Wednesday, but it was not due to the tackle but to an old feeling of injury.
Celebrated now
On social media, Tom Nilsson is now being praised for his decision not to stay on the ice and strengthen, but to get up and continue playing.
“I love Tom Nilsson!! What a wonderful attitude to professional sports!”, writes a Frölunda supporter.
“Where are all the tributes to Tom Nilsson? The second time (at least), that he takes a head tackle that results in a report/suspension, and immediately gets up. Never was it five minutes, or even two…says something about the problem the SHL has. Staying there is rewarded,” writes another.
“Greedy tackling. But want to shift the focus a bit: No amplification, filming or lying around to then magically be able to play again the change after. He was ok = Get back on your feet and play on. That should be believed more,” writes a third person.
“Tom Nilsson is made of steel who does not bend down and play injured,” says a fourth.

At the same time, the referees are criticized for not paying attention to the tackle, which thus led to a four-game suspension in real time.
“If Tom Nilsson remains, then it’s guaranteed to be a match penalty. How can 4 judges miss this is another question…”, writes a supporter.
“It is a shame that we are punished because Tom Nilsson chooses not to stay,” writes another.
