“Friends” star Matthew Perry dead

Police are investigating the cause of death, which is unknown, but no foul play is suspected, the Los Angeles Times reports, citing police sources.

Matthew Perry won international recognition for his role as the quick-witted, insecure and neurotic Chandler Bing in the American television series “Friends”, which ran for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.

He was nominated in 2002 for an Emmy for his role in the popular television series.

Matthew Perry struggled for decades with alcohol and opioid addiction, something he detailed in an autobiographical book published last year.

“I loved my co-stars. I loved the script. I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addiction which only added to my sense of shame,” Perry wrote in the book about the dark times alongside the successes.

The final “Friends” episode aired on May 6, 2004, and was watched by 52.5 million viewers in the US – the highest number for a television episode of the 2000s. Since its first episode, “Friends” has been broadcast in endless reruns around the world and has also reached younger generations through streaming services.

Perry’s death has not been confirmed by relatives.
