Police are investigating the cause of death, which is still unknown, but no foul play is suspected, write the Los Angeles Times and the entertainment site TMZ, which first reported the death, citing police sources.
Matthew Perry won international recognition for his role as the quick-witted, insecure and neurotic Chandler Bing in the American television series “Friends”, which ran for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.

Warner Bros., which produced “Friends,” said in a statement that the news of Perry’s passing is “devastating.”
“The impact of his comic genius was felt around the world and his legacy will live on in so many hearts. This is a devastating day and we wish to send our love to his family, loved ones and all of his devoted fans.”
Perry was nominated for an Emmy in 2002 for her role in the popular television series.
Struggled with addiction
Matthew Perry struggled for decades with alcohol and opioid addiction, something he detailed in an autobiographical book published last year.
“I loved my co-actors. I loved the script. I loved everything about the show but I struggled with my addiction which only added to my sense of shame,” Perry wrote in the book about the dark times alongside the successes.
The final “Friends” episode aired on May 6, 2004 and was watched by 52.5 million viewers in the United States – the highest number for a television episode of the 2000s. Since its first episode, “Friends” has been broadcast in endless reruns around the world and has also reached younger generations through streaming services.
