Friends is moving! This is the opportunity to dive back into the world of this cult series, and to understand why it is so popular. Our psychologist Johanna Rozenblum enlightens us.

Notice to fans of “Friends”, while the entire cult series has been available on Netflix since 2018, on June 11, it will join a new platform. It will thus be broadcast on the Max platform, born from the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+. However, don’t panic! Episodes are available on Netflix until July. Enough to give fans a little more time to enjoy it. On this occasion, psychologist Johanna Rozenblum explains to us why the series is (still) so popular!

Simple, effective humor and good humor

Generally, when we hear about Friends, we think of the humor that the series exudes. Between gags, misunderstandings, comic repetitions, all supported by the recorded laughter of the audience, one thing is certain, you cannot miss the humorous nature of the series.

If we love it so much it’s also because it sows good humor. What’s better than a warm and comforting episode to cheer you up after a long day? Watching an episode of “Friends” is like reuniting with your old group of friends with whom you’re sure to have a good time. According to psychologist Johanna Rozemblum: “Every person can find themselves through the characters of Friends. We all have our Phoebe, our Monica or our Rachel”. Moreover, “it’s this richness in the characters that makes this group of friends so endearing and this series so comforting”, specifies the psychologist.

The length of the series is also an important factor in the affection we have for it: “Thanks to the many seasons and episodes, we have the impression of growing with the characters and sharing their experiences and the major stages of their lives. “Friends” is an integral part of our general culture” says Johanna Rozenblum. No wonder it has such a cult following! Besides, who doesn’t know the catchy theme song of the series? We’ve all had it on our minds for an entire afternoon, even fifteen years after the series ended!

Good in his body, good in his head!

The fantasy of living with your friends

Beyond being warm and carefree, “the series “Friends” above all represents the fantasy that we all have: that of living with our friends in shared accommodation, as if they were our second family”, specifies Doctor Johanna Rozenblum. If the series is so popular it is because it features friends who share new adventures together every day. Everyday moments punctuated by dilemmas, informal situations, joys but also sorrows, which always end up getting better! “It’s a bit like an ideal world where everyday life is pleasant and beautifying, where we remain on the boundary between being an adolescent and an adult,” concludes the psychologist.
