Next week, four national cross-country teams will gather in Sweden to train.
Then Frida Karlsson will train with the rival – right in front of the eyes of her own national team.
– She can learn a lot from that, says mother Mia Karlsson.
The 22-year-old is one of Sweden’s absolute best cross-country skiers. Despite her young age, she has already proven herself at the very highest level, and has several World Cup victories and heavy championship medals to her credit.
Going to train with the rival
On the other hand, Frida Karlsson had a tough season last year. She did not come up to level at all after the turn of the year and was out of action during the Olympic championship in Beijing. She collapsed after several races, and was eventually forced to withdraw from the final event of the Games.
After the season, Frida Karlsson announced that she will run her own venture. She therefore left the Swedish national team and will train with her own team in the coming competition year.
Next week, several national cross-country teams will gather in Sweden to prepare for the next season. The Swedish national team is one team that will be there, Germany another. And now Frida Karlsson’s mother and manager say that the 22-year-old will drive with the Germans.
“Getting good”
– I think that will be good. It’s nice to get to know more people, says Mia Karlsson to Norwegian VG.
Frida’s own trainer, Per Nilsson, also believes that it is a set-up that will suit her perfectly. Among other things, she will train with Olympic gold medalists Victoria Carl and Katharina Hennig.
– Frida’s new situation is exciting in many ways, he says and continues:
– She (Frida Karlsson) has a very high capacity so she will probably give more than she gets on the passes, but Hennig and Carl have other strengths and they might be able to learn a little from each other.
