Frida Karlsson fell ill and was forced to rest involuntarily.
But now there is good news – with weeks to go until the WC.
– The body has responded well, says her trainer, Per Nilsson, to Aftonbladet.
Frida Karlsson made a great effort during the Tour de Ski, and became the first Swedish overall winner since Charlotte Kalla. But it cost her dearly, and it wasn’t long before she fell ill, and was forced to involuntarily rest. It’s not something you want during a World Cup season.
The good news
Last week, Karlsson did a test that measures how her body is doing, to ensure that she can step on harder training. But the test showed that she was not fully recovered, and she was once again forced to take a step back in her training. Not at all according to plan with only a month left until the WC.
But now comes an important piece of good news for the star. Frida Karlsson has stepped up her training ahead of the season’s highlight, and this weekend she completed a hard interval workout, and luckily everything went great. Her trainer, Per Nilsson, confirms that Karlsson responded well to training.
– The body responded well, he tells Aftonbladet.

“Maximized”
Frida Karlsson’s challenge now is to find the right balance before the WC, and not to train out completely. But Per Nilsson believes that Karlsson has historically done well in championships.
– I think she has gotten the most out of many championships. The Olympics were special. But it will be important to be on the right track and at the same time have calm days during the championship as well, he says.
At the same time, the Tour de Ski was proof that Karlsson has what it takes, during days with frequent maximum loads.
– Frida was incredibly proud to be able to fill in what was needed during the Tour de Ski, with the background she has, he says.
