Frida Karlsson is charging for another ski season.
But now she makes a highly controversial decision.
– Yes, I have decided, she says in an interview with SVT Sport.
Our Swedish skiers are currently loading up for a new ski season. It will also be a special one because after three straight ski seasons with major championships in the form of WC 2021, Olympics 2022 and WC 2023, there will now be a season with “only” the World Cup.
Karlsson’s decision
It has got the national team star Frida Karlsson on second thoughts and now she comes with a highly controversial decision that will arouse strong feelings among the Swedish skiing public.
– My first thought was, championship-free season – I’m going to win the World Cup. The second thought was that I might not compete this season, she says in an interview with SVT Sport.

After much consideration, she has nevertheless decided to compete in the World Cup next season. But the goal has completely changed for the Swedish 23-year-old.
– Yes, I have decided and I will go to the World Cup. I will compete, but I will have an approach that I know it is three championship years away. So I will train this season. Otherwise, you usually train until the start of the season and then maintain over the season, but I want to continue developing during the season this year, she says and admits that the focus will not be on winning the World Cup races.
– That will be my “mindset” anyway.

Like Gunde Svan
With many fond memories of Swedish successes in the World Cup over the years and perhaps the most legendary Gunde Tail five total victories, it feels deep in a blue-yellow heart to hear Frida’s words. Last season she won four World Cup races during the winter, but that will not be topped in the coming season.

She admits, however, that it will be difficult not to get involved when the competition horns take over.
– It’s easy to sit here and say, but I think it will be more difficult with the winner’s skull you still have to enter and take a competition lightly, says Karlsson in the interview with the TV channel.
