Jessie Diggins has exceeded all expectations this season.
But the American has also had to pay a high price for success.
– It would have broken me, says Frida Karlsson according to Nettavisen.
No one could beat the fantastic Jessie Diggins this ski season. The American impressed from start to finish and can look back on many fine efforts this winter.
Diggin’s success
The 32-year-old won both the Tour de Ski around the turn of the year and then took home the overall World Cup for the entire season. She managed to keep away from both Swedes Lynn Svahn and Frida Karlsson but Diggins has had to pay a high price for the success.

During the course of the season, she has mostly lived in Europe, far from her home in North America and thus has to sacrifice a lot of time with her family and especially her husband Wade Poplawski. The love couple got married in May 2022 and since then have not spent many days together.
– Yes, I heard that she had 40 days with her husband per year. And it’s not much. It is difficult to get used to that situation, says rival Frida Karlsson to Expressen, according to the Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen.
– It would have broken me.
Karlsson admits
Diggins also admits that it can be incredibly tough with so many days a year on the road.
– Sometimes it can be challenging and very, very hard. I get very homesick. The last time I was able to celebrate Christmas at home in the United States was in 2009. I miss seeing my husband, my family, being able to sleep in my own bed and cook whatever food I want in my kitchen, she admits to the evening newspaper and explains that the love for skiing is what makes it worth it in the end.
– Otherwise, I could quit whenever I want, but I continue because I love to ski. It is obvious that the love for the sport wins over the difficulties of being away so much, says the American.

Jessie Diggins has now lived this life for fourteen years, while Frida Karlsson is unsure if she could have even managed a single year with so much time away from home.
– It probably depends a lot on who you have around you. And I have my best friends in this national team. It is very much like a family to me, says the Swede in the interview.
– But if it hadn’t been like that, you would have instead been in a team where you would rather withdraw than socialize – it would have killed me.
