Frida Karlsson won the five-mile in Holmenkollen by far.
Then she won the heart of the Norwegian people with the finest gesture.

There was a big ski party in Holmenkollen over the weekend, where the ladies’ and men’s five-mile races attracted large crowds. On Saturday it was a Swede that everyone was talking about – namely Frida Karlsson.
Karlsson’s great victory
The Swede was completely superior and won the prestigious five-mile in grand style. As is tradition, the winner always gets to take the stairs up to the Norwegian royal family who are in attendance.

But this weekend there was none King Harald in the stands during the World Cup races. When, after a trip to Malaysia, he fell ill and was forced to undergo emergency surgery.
Frida’s nice gesture
Instead was Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and the princesses Ingrid Alexandra and Astrid on site in Holmenkollen for the classic ski competition. And Karlsson got to meet everyone after his great victory in the five-mile.
– It was nice, actually. They are interested in skiing and were very happy for me. So it was fun, says Frida to Expressen.

The Swede also offered a most admirable gesture after the victory that went straight into the hearts of the Norwegian people. Karlsson wished a speedy recovery to King Harald, who is currently receiving continued care at the Rikshospitalet in Oslo.
– It was a nice gesture that the entire royal family surely appreciates. The king’s health has been the big news event in Norway since he fell ill a couple of weeks ago, says the Norwegian journalist Simen Lönning to the evening paper.
– The king is very popular in Norway and that means a lot to many. That a star like Frida Karlsson shows care, I think a lot of people really like it.

But Frida also happened to lose a little during the meeting with the Norwegian royal family. Confusion arose when she was on her way away from their places and it turned out that she had not greeted all the royals.
– But then I was called back by the crown prince. I had missed the princess, haha. But everything worked out in the end!, admits the Swede in the interview.
