Frida Karlsson was over the last skiathlon and will not compete at all next weekend in Davos.
Now national team manager Anders Byström tells why the star is actually missing.
– We will see what happens in the future, he tells Sportbladet.
Even though no one thought she would be able to compete before Christmas Frida Karlsson25, has already been in three races since the premiere. It has also looked surprisingly good on her. But now there will be a break from competing for Frida. She is canceling her participation in Davos next weekend. Many Swedes are probably worried that it is because she is still struggling with her injury.
That is why Frida Karlsson is not competing in Davos
Frida has started the season by carefully entering the competition pace. She stood over one race in the World Cup in Ruka, then two in Lillehammer. She was not in the skiathlon last Sunday. It was a precaution so that she wouldn’t re-injury her foot injury that kept her out of the national ski team’s joint pre-season camp.

Now it is clear that there will be no competitions for Frida in the Swiss Davos next weekend. She is completely above them. It is not at all about the fact that two out of three competitions in the resort are sprints. Nor is it because things are going badly with the foot injury. The Swedes need not worry unnecessarily.
– I spoke to her trainer Per (Nilsson) this morning. They had a long conversation last night and we’ll see what happens in the future. That she should have a training period now has been the plan all along. It has nothing to do with the competition program. She wants a longer, consistent period of training and it went well for Ruka. So we can hope for something similar for the WC, says the national team manager Anders Byström to Sportbladet.
Ebba Andersson also misses
It may be that Frida Karlsson is not in the Tour de Ski over the New Year either. No decision has yet been made on that. On the other hand, Byström is not worried that Frida will compete too little before the WC in Trondheim in February-March. He believes that the more training regimen will benefit her instead.
– (Therese) Johaug will do the same. Maybe we’ll see them together in the WC next time. It’s too early to tell. Frida has to lay out the plan and see if it is competition that is needed or long and good training, he says.

It is also clear that Sweden’s other big star in the longer distances, Ebba Andersson, will ignore the World Cup in Davos next weekend. She takes the opportunity to take a longer training break to optimize her form for the WC.
Hope it goes well with your plans to train yourself in shape for the WC. We will of course miss you on the ski slopes next weekend when the World Cup moves on to Davos. We get to cheer on all the talented Swedish sprint stars instead.
