Frida Karlsson is back against all odds.
The long-distance star confirms that she will start in the Swedish premiere in Bruksvallarna this weekend.
– It feels great to be here. I just want to get started, she tells Sportbladet.
On 25 October came the shocking news that one of Sweden’s biggest cross-country stars, Frida Karlsson25, would be forced to cancel his participation in the national team’s altitude camp in Italy’s Val Senales due to a foot injury. Instead, she went to Tenerife for two weeks and cycled.
Frida has trained herself in Tenerife
The national team doctor Richard Noberius said that the injury was due to Frida training too much, and a little incorrectly, during the summer.
– It is an overload in the soft parts of the left foot, which, in combination with a tough autumn of training, contributed to overloading and incorrect loading of, among other things, the groin.
– A combination that means Frida Karlsson needs to back off from training on snow – and focus on rehabilitation and alternative training.

It was unclear when she would be able to come back and if it was even relevant to compete before the turn of the year because she would still not have time to practice anything on snow. But suddenly there started to be small, positive updates on Frida’s social media. Pictures on Instagram showed how she cycled up in the mountains and also trained with the Norwegian long-distance elite in Team Ramudden.
– I lived with them for two weeks. It was super fun! A super lovely bunch and fun to do something different. It is something I can recommend, she now tells Sportbladet.
Frida Karlsson competes on Saturday
Against all odds, Frida Karlsson – who hasn’t had time to do too many training sessions on snow yet – now confirms that she will actually compete in the Bruksvallarna during the domestic premiere weekend. She has recovered in record time from her foot injury and starts competing straight away. Not many expected this.
– I’m not nervous at all. It feels great to be here. I just want to get started, she says.

The competitions in Bruksvallarna start with sprints on Friday. But it is on Saturday’s classic 10 kilometer race that we get to see Frida again. When she is not competing, she will be scouting the Norwegian competitors competing in their national premiere in Beitostölen at the same time. It will be extra exciting to follow Therese Johaugbut she should not devote too much thought to the Norwegian.
– No, God. I’m busy focusing on myself, says Frida Karlsson.
So wonderful that you are back, Frida! There are many of us keeping our fingers crossed for you on Saturday. Good luck and drive hard – but take it easy on the injury.
