Frida Karlsson has a foot injury and is forced to miss the national team camp in Italy.
Now the world cup premiere in Ruka is in danger.
– I won’t be able to get in as much skiing before the season starts, I know that, she says.
On Friday, it was announced that one of Sweden’s great medal hopes in the WC in Trondheim 2025 will miss the season opener due to an overuse injury in one foot. She has now had to cancel the national team’s camp in the Italian Val Senales in order to rehab herself in Tenerife instead.
Was just a pass on snow
Frida Karlsson spoke to the press on Friday, shortly after the sad news came out, at a digital press conference. There she told how her body feels right now.
– I have trained hard and a lot during the summer, had to follow my plan exactly as I wanted. Which is perhaps a contributing factor to the fact that I started to feel my footing around the Trondheim camp, as has already been reported in the newspaper. It got worse and since then I have had to balance on a fragile thread as to where I have been able to lie in terms of load. After the altitude camp in Lavazé it got worse and I ended up only cycling as a form of exercise and rehab, she says and continues:
– When I stepped on snow in the Vålådalen and was going to try it there, we realized that… I had a pretty serious setback and we realized that skiing is a long way off for me.

Considering that the Sweden premiere in Bruksvallarna takes place on November 22-24, many fear that Karlsson will miss the start of the season. Maybe even more than that.
Aiming at Bruksvallarna
It is still very unclear how long she will be forced to devote herself to cycling training and rehab in the gym. Right now, she can’t say she’ll be back at any particular time.
– That is what is difficult about being injured. You can’t make a long-term plan, I have to take it day by day. I am in constant contact with my physio at home. We want to see that it goes in the right direction all the time and before I feel zero symptoms we will stick to the cycle. Hopefully, I will be able to fit in a strike at the end of my time here, she says.
Her short-term goal is still that she should be able to join the Bruksvallarna. The next big highlight is the World Cup premiere in Finnish Ruka the following week.
CHRONICLE: Frida Karlsson has not learned from old mistakes
– I try to take the whole situation in stride and follow the development around this injury. I won’t be able to get that much skiing in before the season starts, I know that. I hope I’m fit for the fight for the Bruksvallarna, but I know in any case that I’ll have to switch into this season, she says, stressing that she really hopes to be able to compete in Ruka:
– I can’t say black or white like that… but I hope. I have a goal that I want to be there. I hope so. That’s my target image.
The WC should not be in danger
Many are probably also wondering how the Swedish ski star views the WC in Trondheim at the turn of February-March. Is that championship also in danger?
There, Frida says that she is not particularly worried that she will miss the championship, which is of course the big highlight of the season.
– The WC is still five months away, for that we have time. That’s the beauty of it. It is a stated goal for this season to be at its best in February-March. So there is time and I will just try to take this step by step, she says.
Take your time and feel what your body says, Frida. Don’t rush anything – it will only cost you in the long run.
We look forward to seeing you competing on the ski slopes again in the future. Hey hey!
